27. Back to greenhouse

Venla stares at her greenhouse but is unable to step in. There’s a lot to do; cleaning, putting things back to order, watering plants, find her book and check is everything ok, but putting her feet back to yesterday's prison is too much to ask for. Her private secret garden has turned into horrorhouse.
– I already checked it in the morning, Ilari says behind Venla. She startles and turns to face him. -There was no door stopper anything to keep the door secure. No wonder you got trapped. Venla blinks.
– Oh? There he is again and words just don't come out.
- I thought I 'd fix it for you and got some supplies, Ilari continues and checks the door again.
– Really? Is the only thing Venla gets said.
-Well, at least I have something to do.
-I thought you worked in military? Venla is surprised and confused.
-Yeah. I'm still on mandatory vacation. Can't imagine anything so boring.
– Ah, you are those who can't sit still and need something to do, Venla observes.
-Quite right, Ilari replies and checks hinges on the door. -Anyway. I'm grateful, Venla smiles.
-Can't let my neighbor to imprison herself again. He smiles back.

- Have you lived here long? Ilari asks and sits down after he's done.
-About half a year, Venla sits beside him. -I thought I'd start over. Better and in my own way. Ilari looks somewhere in distance.
-Likewise. Though I don't know about that better part. He takes a deep breath. – It's not so easy to come back into civilian life. In the operation everything is clear, in control and planned for. Everybody's working as one. Then you come back, learn everything has turned upside down, all relations to other people are difficult and you just feel like an outsider. And I miss my ex so much I can't even function right. Ilari catches himself revealing too much to Venla. – I don't know why I started to open up to you. Sorry. Venla touches Ilari's hand.
-Sometimes it's easier to talk to a stranger. Her voice is soft, understanding.
-A stranger with whom I just spend the night, Ilari reminds and Venla almost forgets what she was supposed to say.
– Um, yeah. That. Then she gets hold of her thought earlier. -I know work in military can be hard on those who stay home. All trainingcamps, postings into new garrison in another place or city, other war exercises... Ilari turns to look at Venla. He looks surprised.
– How do you know?
-My father was in military too. I spend my childhood in Santahamina and lived in garrison area.
-No way.
-Really. I used to play there with my sister and sometimes we and other children took part on military exercise with rookies.
-Are you shitting me? Ilari sounds stunned.
-No. Trainers really took everything out of that when children, little girls could do better than adult men. Ilari bursts out laughing.
 -That's priceless!
– But hey, we had done that for years so of course we could do it better! Venla boasts and makes Ilari laugh harder.
-I can't believe this! Ilari wipes his eyes. – How long did you lived there? He wants to know when he's able to control himself once more.
– I think I was eleven when we moved, Venla tries to remember. -We started to get interested in boys and in island full of army guys…
-Christ! Ilari huffs. - That's insane scenario.
-Yeah, My dad thought so too.

Lucky dawdles in Venla's side and then tries to hump her arm.
-No you don't! Venla hisses. Before Ilari has reacted to his dog's behavior Venla acts. She raises her voice and commands Lucky down, pushes it to the ground.
- You really know how to handle dogs, Ilari gives her credit.
-I told you I'm used to stubborn males, Venla says.
-Should have listened, Ilari lifts his brow. Venla shakes her head to Lucky. It grovels on he ground.
– Listen now furball, you are lowest in hierarchy and I’m the alfa bitch. The leader of the pack is only one privileged to do so. Ilari couffs like he’s about to suffocate and Venla turns to Look at him.
- That would be me, Ilari says and corners of his mouth are twiching like crazy.
– What? Venla looks lost.
- Leader of The pack, Ilari explains and Venla stuns
-Eeeehhh. Venla covers her face with her hands. - I didn't… Oh no. I didn't meant it like that!
– A little Freudian slip? Ilari grins and he’s highly amused. This is so embarrassing. Venla feels her face turning bright red. -So, this makes me wonder…
-Don't you dare to say it! Venla snaps back. -I already started to like you. I slapped your brother and I totally will slap you'r face too if you say it!
-You can try, Ilari says calmly but hilariously. - Won't succeed.
-Ugh! Venla doesn't know what to say. -I think we're done talking.
– Already? Lady, you are in hurry. Ilari gets up. -So, my place or yours?
– Stop it! Venla gestures he can't come closer. -I can't take this.
- Where's your humour? Ilari laughs and it’s low sound makes Venla to blush more. -I’ m just teasing you.
