4. Ilari

Ilari is pissed. Royally. Coming back to Finland was supposed to be a good thing but then shit hit the fan. First, before leaving the base on Iraq, his superior gave him a letter. A letter where his girlfriend told he's dumped and advice on which warehouse he could find his stuff. Five years long relationship ended just like that. Poof!

And now he's back, on almost empty new flat and has to face two weeks of quarantine. A drink would be perfect now. Maybe even a full bottle.

Ilari tries to flee his feelings. Usually it's done by exhausting himself physically. So he tries running, but conversation with Virpi, his ex (he realizes), keeps twirling on his mind.

She didn't answer the first six calls, but finally picks up.
- I asked you not to call, she says right away.
- Come on. Five years to the bin with letter?! We definetly need to talk. Ilari says, trying to hide his anguish.
- I wanted to talk last time we saw, but you didn't think timing was good, Virpi reminds.
- Howcome I should have known it was the last chance? Now he sounds angry.
- This is so like you. Never listen what I say. It has always been you and what you want. Virpi sighs. - You could have thougth me once in a while. I'm so done waiting for you. So I did what I did. You didn't let me have other options.

Both are silent for a moment.
- Last time we saw was six months ago. Had you already made up your mind then? Ilari needs to know.
- You were here for a week and we just argued the whole time, Virpi sounds tired. -I realized we are better off. Please, don't make this harder than it already is.
- Not true. We had good sex. Ilari disagrees. Virpi snorts.
- It was the only thing that worked. Come on, think. We were competing against each other. Who did better and so on. We are too competitive to be a couple.
They fall silent for a long.
- So. This is it then, Ilari says feeling more and more angry.
- Yes, she says and hangs up.

So he runs more.
